Historic Highland Bar which hosted early performances of Amy Macdonald’s career, now on sale

A historic pub in Inverness town centre is for sale for £695,000.

The Market Bar, situated in a lane leading to the Victorian market, has built a reputation as a popular traditional pub and music venue.

Over the years it has hosted early career performances by artists ranging from Billy Connolly to Paulo Nutini.

It has been run by Ian and Pep Shepherd for almost 40 years, but the couple has now decided it’s time to retire and hand over to someone younger.

The pub, believed to date from the 1740s, is one of the oldest in the town and has a long history as an inn.

It is marketed by ASG Commercial, Inverness, who describe it as an “iconic bar”.

The sales pitch continues : “Located close to other important music venues and within the social scene of the town, the bar is an icon, having hosted many early shows and before they were famous artists such as The Proclaimers, Amy MacDonald, Paulo Nutini and even Billy Connolly”.

The building has two entrances – one to what is described as a “character” bar on the ground floor and the other to the popular music room on the ground floor.
